Project 2 - Stencyl Prototype

Here is a screenshot of my game prototype. It's not perfect, I couldn't get it to be the right perspective and although I managed to get the lumberjacks to chase the raccoon, they defy gravity and will chase him into the sky when he jumps. I believe with enough time I could develop my game to my exact specifications without much trouble, the hardest challenge would be getting the perspective right and maybe the climbing trees part. I made the trees grey so that they wouldn't over power the characters and make the characters stand out in colour.

Project 2 - Characters brought to life

Here are my characters brought to life using Illustrator, I imported them and use live trace/live paint to colour them in and make them look like cartoons.

Project 2 - Chosen Idea

I have decided to go with my Racoon idea, so far I am calling it Cartoon Raccoon. The game is centred around the environmental crisis of over deforestation. The object of the game is to defend a forest against lumberjacks by knocking out all of the lumberjacks before they catch you (Raccoon) and knock you out. To do this the player must jump onto lumberjacks, stomping them. After you attack your first lumberjack the rest will charge towards you to catch you, if you continue to circle in attempt to avoid them they will naturally group up making it next to impossible to stomp them, to solve this problem you can climb trees in order to avoid them catching you, once up a tree the lumberjacks will disperse and continue to chop down trees. To stop the player taking advantage of stomping a lumberjack and climbing a tree repeatedly, the player can only climb a tree 3 times as the raccoon will get fatigued. If the player stomps 3 lumberjacks in a row they will gain a "Rabies" bonus forcing all lumberjacks to run away from the player and allowing the raccoon to knock out lumberjacks just by touching them not jumping on them, this will expire after 10 seconds.

Project 2 - Game Ideas

Game Idea 1:

My first game idea is a platform jumper where the character is permanently climbing to avoid the rising sea level caused by glaciers melting from global warming. To lower global warming the player can stomp enemies while climbing, this will slow the rate at which the sea level rises giving the player extra time to climb.

Game Idea 2:

My second idea is a climbing game where the player must climb a volcano dodging falling boulders to eventually cap off the volcano stopping it from emitting sulphur dioxide which cause acid rain.

Game Idea 3:

My third game is about a raccoon defending his forest from deforestation by stomping on lumberjacks that are attempting to chop down his trees; once the raccoon attacks his first lumberjack the other lumberjacks will chase the raccoon in attempt to catch and knock him out. The player will have to continue to jump and avoid the lumberjacks in order to survive and finish them off.
