Jumping

Auto Scrolling
Most Auto Scrolling games are 2D and are a good way of keeping the game moving and exciting whilst keeping the player focused and on the edge of their seat. A good example of this is "The Impossible Game" the impossible game is a stressful die and re-spawn at the beginning styled game where the character is a box and must jump over other harmful boxes and spikes in order to survive whilst continuing moving.

Dodging
Dodging games are almost always score based, the longer you continue to dodge the higher the score. "Cubefield" is a simple dodge based game where the user in a arrow zooming forward while trying to avoid squares. Features that the creators implemented are that the arrangement of the squares change into formations and that after making it through the level everything changes into a different colour scheme, sometimes making it more difficult to see oncoming squares.

Many old school games used
jumping as a central mechanic for gameplay. One new game that uses this
old mechanic is "Doodle Jump". Doodle Jump is a vertical never ending
platform game then involves a character (Doodle) jumping from platform to
platform trying to get as high as possible to gain the highest score. New
features the creators of Doodle Jump have added are power ups; these include
jetpacks and springs to boost up quicker and shields that provide
invulnerability for a limited amount of time.

Project One - Game Mechanics
The game mechanics I focused on

all of these mechanics.
Here is a video of that level.

Project One - Game Designer
I researched the game designer David Cage, mainly for his works on Quantic Dream's Heavy Rain (PS3). David Cage is famous in the gaming community for his ability to deliver a story through gaming. Because games usually last much longer than movies, it gives more time to develop a story with depth and allow the audience a greater attachment to characters, which David Cage takes advantage of; if a character you like in a 2 hour movie dies it sucks, but if a character you have been playing with for 8 hours that you have come to know and love dies it's devastating.
In the video game Heavy Rain the user plays as four characters with unique characteristics and personalities. The game mechanics are based around quick time events such as "press R1 now" or "rotate stick clockwise". The plot revolves around a heart-wrenching story of Ethan Mars, a father of two who lost his son in a car accident and a year later his other son gets kidnapped by a serial killer. David Cage's interactive story is incredible giving the player decisions which ultimately change the story resulting in a possible 20 endings.

David Cage also was the lead on a tech demo for Quantic Dream's Kara. The demo showcases how a characters facial expressions can tell a story of their own.
